Organizers postponed the Lake Placid Loppet until Saturday, 10 March, according to Facebook posting by Mount van Hoevenberg. Warm temperatures and rain have wiped out their base. The scene depicted in a stadium webcam resembled a skating rink more than a ski area. In order to re-open, Van Ho requires much more than the periodic snow showers in the extended forecast over the next several days.
Meanwhile, the Craftsbury Ski Center is proceeding with this Saturday’s marathon. On Monday, they revised the race route from their point-to-point course to an 11 km loop due to trail conditions. After receiving two inches of snow last night, they received rain earlier today and closed the course to preserve it for tomorrow’s race.
